DIY Duct Tape Flower Pen {Perfect Teacher Valentine!}

how to make duct tape flowers

Pin It

At church today, one of the tweens I work with in our Large Group preschool environment was making duct tape flowers. I have a soft spot for duct tape and asked her to teach me how to make one. And she did. And now I’m showing you!

Isn’t that great? Just think of all the fun patterns, colors and shapes of flowers you could do! And I’m super impressed that even though Lydia did 98% of it herself, it still turned out adorable and does not look like a Kindergartner made it. For school, Lydia was assigned to make a Valentine for her principal–and this is what we’re sending! I think she’s gonna like it!

Have you ever made a duct tape craft?

Fold a Heart into an Envelope! {Valentine’s Day}

heart envelope

I adore all the stuff that comes with Valentine’s Day–secrets, cards, flowers, CHOCOLATE and gifts. But I certainly don’t want my kids focusing on romantic love before they should. So, I’ve been trying to think of some Valentine’s Day stuff that’s got a little Scripture twist to it. Today we made some cards that have a little surprise inside…

Just a note: I was going to begin this post with a self-depreciating comment about how I didn’t even check a mirror before we made this video. I’m a lipstick girl and the fact that I didn’t wear lipstick was bothering me. In fact, as I began to film I said to Lydia, “Ugh! I need some lipstick!” But Asa was already sitting on the counter and Lydia was poised to vlog for you, so I bit the bullet and went sans lipstick. Later as we watched the video (while I’m thinking how strange my hair looks and my lips look bare) Lydia says, “Ugh! I need some lipstick.” And I felt sick. My beautiful, perfectly formed little 5 year old was scrutinizing herself. Granted she was only mimicking me, but I felt as if she was mimicking not just my words but my actions–that looking for the flaws was the normal and right thing to do. Lord, help me be an example in my words and actions! Help me show my children that beauty, love and worth is found in you alone!

DIY Hair Bow & Clip Holder

For Christmas one year I got some cute shadow type frames from Ikea. Originally I put some of Lydia’s baby items in them and hung them in her nursery. Now that she’s a little older, we replaced the baby stuff and made something functional.

Supplies: Ikea’s RIBBA frame (or other shadow box), glue gun, ribbon, hair clips & blanket/background fabric

I found one of her old blankets and cut out a little square to line the back. Then we found some of her clippies–the ones that she had pulled from her hair and slobbered on. The ones that were falling apart but just TOO CUTE to throw away. (And ok, had a few memories connected to them.) We hot glued them on and shut the door.

How adorable is that? A sweet little memory of my baby Lydia, right?

Well, we added one more thing that made it even better! We grabbed some nice long ribbon and hot glued that to the back. And voila! We have instant clippie and barette holder!

How lovely not to have to dig through a pile of clips every morning. Plus–HOW CUTE IS THAT?!

I like the idea of taking something that is a memory and turning it into a craft or decoration–instead of just cluttering up a drawer or closet. I also thought this idea would be fun to use for artwork or Bible verses. You could attach ribbon to any picture and clip on papers with clothespins to show off or help you memorize!
