Remember my homeschool-private-school-public-school dilemma? Well, it’s finally come to a close. In just one week, my little Lydia will start KINDERGARTEN. I cannot even believe it! When I started this blog she was only 2.5 years old and we were working on our ABC Scriptures. Now she’s going to be in actual SCHOOL learning phonics and math and history!
And what school is she going to attend? It’s a homeschool-hybrid. She goes to class 2 days a week. She has a real teacher, a fun classroom, 16 kids in her class, a backpack, a cubby, a lunchbox and uniforms! Then the rest of the week, she’ll study the same lessons (a continuation of them) with me at home! I’ll have all the teacher books and will be doing actual teaching, not just fulfilling assignments or homework. As far as the state is concerned I am homeschooling. But for me? I’ve got someone doing the hard part (researching curriculum, keeping us on a schedule, etc) while I do the fun-mom part. And in Lydia’s mind? She’s GOING TO SCHOOL!
I’m really hoping this is going to be the best of both worlds and a nice fit for our family. But while we get adjusted to all this, I’m going to take a little bloggy break. In fact, I’m going to take the whole month off. I’ve just got to be unplugged so I can figure out how to teach my daughter, take time for my son and actually get some laundry done in between.
But don’t worry, I won’t leave you high and dry! I’ve wrangled some of of my best blogging buds, some bloggers I admire (and regularly stalk online) along with some in-real-life friends to share how THEY impress their kids at home. I know you will be inspired by them because I am regularly inspired by them! Please show them some great love this month by leaving a comment and spreading the word about their posts. I know they’d be honored! (And I would, too!)
I can’t wait to report back about our hybrid homeschool experience! So, I’ll see you back here on Labor Day! Thank you for being a part of Impress Your Kids!

How did you find this school? What is it called? It’s a fabulous idea! I’ve heard of homeschool co-ops but this sounds even better! Are the other kids in her class doing the same thing?

Smart idea, Mom — taking a bloggy break at this busy time. Our school has a hybrid that’s similar — it’s neat.
Hopped over from MOB. Enjoy your month!

Good for you! I hope the school year gets off to a smooth start. You’re setting yourself up for success by taking a (most likely much overdue) well deserved break from blogging. Congrats, and . . . relax!

I don’t know how I heard about it—honestly? I think it was the Lord…just different people at different places and times who mentioned it. And the more I heard about it, the more I liked it!
The kids are doing the same thing–from what I can tell it looks like a regular old kindergarten class–just 2 days a week!

That sounds like a fantastic solution. I’ve never heard of something like that but I wish we had one around here. I guess what we’re doing is similar just not quite the same. We’ll be doing an enrichment day once a week at a small Christian school. We do our own curriculum though.

That was a good decision, Amanda. It was also my girl’s first time to school. Like you, I was so excited that I want to be with her all the time. I want er to be the best at school. These motherly feelings are really incomparable and it’s just right that we take some break from the usual things we do.
