I’m a lazy nature lover. I love being outside. I just don’t love running outside. I don’t like sweating or getting spiderwebs and dirt in my hair.
I’ve been taking the kids outside every day but I usually just want to sit on the porch and watch them run around. Bad thing is, they end up just sitting next to me. Which of course, defeats the purpose.
So, I’ve been trying to think of fun things to do while being outside. But nothing like flag football or hiking with a 30 lb one year old on my hip.
Today we made Nature Letters! We collected rocks, leaves and sticks then formed the first letter of their word. Like this rock “R”…

It was fun because we had to sound out the words, figure out how many pieces we’d need to collect to make the letter and then actually put it together. Here’s some more of our creations…

(fern F, stick S, mica M, berry B)
Then we got a little more creative and made Lydia’s name. My favorite part is the stick “I” with the berry dot on top!

What do you and your kids like to do outside?

What fun!
I love the little berry dot on the I, too.
We’ve been doing lots of clover blossom “popping” off the stems today while we’re outdoors.

What a fun idea. It looks like you have a fun yard too with lots to find in it.

Libbie’s favorite outdoor activity is to go up and down my neighbor’s steps a million times. That counts as physical activity, right? She also likes to pursue their cat, Bo. Mostly that involves wondering around saying, “Bo???”

This is so fun–I love it! We like to play in the sprinkler, play in the sandbox, and work in the garden. Oh, and eat popsicles, too.

I love this idea! Our boys like to turn on the water hose and make a “stream” in the gutter and find small sticks, blades of grass, and leaves to be boats. It’s their boat races.
