God’s Eye: Summer Camp Crafts

I am lovin’ all these camp posts. It makes me homesick for camp! One of my favorite kind of crafts (besides popsicle sticks, obviously) is nature crafts. I love acorns, rocks, sticks and pinecones. Speaking of pinecones, the fabulous Marie from Make and Takes posted a fun pinecone bird feeder today. That is campiness at it’s finest!

We don’t have any pinecones in our backyard (*sniff*) so Lydia and I made a God’s Eye with some sticks! I loved making God’s Eyes when I was a kid. When I sat down to make this one I remembered it perfectly! All you need is two sticks and some yarn. Ah, I love simple crafts!

Next, turn your 2 sticks into a cross. Use a piece of yarn to keep it together. (I tied them in an “x”.)

Now for the fun part. Start with a looooong piece of yarn in the middle. Just hold it with your finger. Then carefully wrap the yarn around one stick. Once it’s wrapped, rotate your sticks and wrap the next stick. Continue to wrap until they all have ONE wrap. Once you get back to your first stick, make sure your next wrap is just above the the first one—think stacking not covering!

Lydia couldn’t quite get the rotation down, so I let her wrap while I turned the sticks. She pulled the yarn over the top, wrapped it to the back and then did the same on the next stick. (For an illustrated tutorial visit Christian Crafters.)

My favorite part is the back! Doesn’t it look awesome? (And it shows how well you did on stacking the yarn!)

Of course, God’s Eyes aren’t the most functional items. So, we had a good idea to put all your camp memorabilia on it as a souvenir! You could put pictures, notes, nature items, necklaces, nametags or anything else that your kids might collect at camp!

Or my other favorite idea is to put a scripture verse in there. Lydia and I found lots of verses about God’s eyes, so it was perfect for our little craft!

More scriptures about God’s eyes…

Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere. They watch those who are evil and those who are good.
Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my body even before it was formed.
Job 34:21
His eyes are on the ways of men; he sees their every step.
Hebrews 4:13
Nothing God created is hidden from him. His eyes see everything. He will hold us accountable for everything we do.
