Send Your Sponsored Child a Book {Impress Your SPONSORED Kids}

Send your sponsored child a BOOK!

This is the most horrifying post I’ve ever written. I’m going to tell you to tear up a book.

Can you believe it?!

It’s just that I’ve found the most perfect book ever for our sponsored kids and I just have to send it to them! I’ve posted about The See With Me Bible before and a few months ago, I found a used copy at the thrift store. I grabbed it up and then was totally disappointed that one of the pages were ripped.

Send your sponsored child a BOOK!

However, that big rip gave me a fantastic idea! I could rip out the pages one by one and send them to our kids in Burkina Faso and the Dominican Republic. This book doesn’t have any words (well, a few English words at the very end) and has so many fabulous details it’s perfect for all languages.

Send your sponsored child a BOOK!

We carefully tore out a few pages, folded them up and are sending them to our sponsored kids. If you ever find a See With Me Bible at the thrift store, grab it up! You can give your sponsored kids a Bible no matter what language they speak.

Your challenge (should you choose to accept it) is to find a book to rip up and send to your kids. OK. That might be a little impossible. But keep your eyes open for books, sticker or even postcards with no words so your child can enjoy them no matter what language they speak.

Don’t forget to check out my Flat Crafts for Sponsored Kids Pinterest board. There are several contributors who have found some great ideas.

Who’s gonna write their sponsored kids today?

Apple Print Bags

Make an Apple Print Lunch Bag for your Sponsored Kids from impressyourkids.com

It’s 4:25 in the afternoon. And my kids are in the bathtub. Why? Because Asa had a little accident during his nap. Which has not happened in months. Of course, I had just put his newly laundered comforter on his bed the day before. So, we’re off to wash every piece of bedding again. *sigh*

We were supposed to write our sponsored kids today and we have barely been home! Lydia is doing “Sewing School” with my mom every Friday morning. Today, after I picked her up we went to Whole Foods and spent an hour and too much money on some food. Then naps, the accident and now the bath. *double sigh*

Anywhoo. As soon as the kids are out of the bath, we finish school, clean the kitchen and make dinner (*whew*), we are going to make apple prints for our sponsored kids! I want to do a craft each month that is kind of thematic of the month. So, I thought apples would be perfect for September!

I really wanted to make and send them this adorable bag I found on Pinterest. (Isn’t that cute?) Then I remembered this apple print banner we made a few years ago.

So, I thought we’d combine the two ideas and make an apple print lunch bag. Do you think it is a weird gift to send a brown paper bag to our sponsored kids? I know my kids love little bags and to have a spot to keep all their little belongings. Well, that’s what we’re going to do anyway!

I’ll update tonight (or first thing tomorrow) on Facebook to show you how it turned out! Update: We did it! Click to see the pictures!

Impress Your SPONSORED Kids: gift ideas for your sponsored kids
Your crafty mission is to make an apple print or two (maybe a small banner? a bag? or just a piece of construction paper with as many apple prints as your kiddos can cram on there!)! Make sure to include a little note to your sponsored kids about the Autumn weather or traditions and include Psalm 17:8 or Proverbs 7:2!

If you’re not feeling crafty this month, keep your eye open for something fun in your mailbox you could “re-gift” to them—we always get those thin little magnets with pretty pictures on them, mini calendars and even sheets of stickers!

ps–the above picture is about 2 hours after I started this post. The kids are in their jammies and dinner is on the table…but we’re getting closer! At least the apples are out!

Join the Compassion Blogger Network
This month is Blog Month with Compassion International. They’ve set a goal to sponsor 3100 kids via blogs in September. That number almost puts tears in my eyes! 3000+ kids set free from poverty, cared for, loved on and shown Jesus’ love! Only $38 a month (less than 10 bucks a week!) can change the life of a child, a family and even a community!

If you’ve been following our Sponsored Kids crafts for awhile and you’ve said, “One day, we’ll do that.” or “I need to sit down and sponsor a kid.” Will you do it now? Stop and look at the faces of real children that need you. Real kids that need Jesus. Your life will never be the same!

Email your SPONSORED Child

It’s Impress Your SPONSORED Kids time! I have to admit that it feels like we just did this a week ago, because it took me forever to finish our flags and get them mailed off. But, we did it! That’s what matters, right?

writing to your sponsored children
Speaking of our flags, the kids and I watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics (about 8 days late) mainly so we could see the parade of nations. And they were so incredibly jazzed to see Burkina Faso where are two Compassion kids are and Dominican Republic where our World Vision daughter is. They were literally dancing around the room chanting, “Dominican Repub-lic, Dominican Repub-lic!” I love that they are connected with our kids’ countries!

Today the kids are going to spend the night with my parents (one last Grandparent adventure before school starts!) while my husband and I are going to the movies, out to eat and yes, even spend the night at a hotel. The dinner is with a giftcard, we priceline.com-ed the hotel and basically, I’m going to sleep all day tomorrow. I can’t wait.

Anywhoo. The above paragraph is to give you my excuse for not making a big craft today for our sponsored kids. In lieu of a craft, I want to show you how both World Vision and Compassion make letter-writing easy for you.

Did you know you can email your sponsored kids?!

Here’s a mini World Vision emailing tutorial for you…

First sign into (or create an account for) My WorldVision. You’ll see all the info you’ll ever need about your child, your account and even your tax records! Look at how pretty my Mari Luz is! Now, to email her all I have to do is click SEND AN EMAIL.

That’s it! Then just type to your heart’s content and send! (Aren’t you glad I did a tutorial for you on this? I’m sure you would have never figured it out without me!)

What’s cool on the World Vision site is that they have some sample letters for you to use as inspiration–introducing yourself, thanking them for their letter and more. It’s really nice to have a guide, especially if you’re just beginning this new relationship!

Now, if you have a Compassion child, go to Compassion and sign into your account. It will bring up your Account Summary. Click WRITE MY CHILD…

Then your adorable children’s faces will pop up. Pick one to write…

And then follow the steps through a template, text and even the option to upload a picture!

send an email to your compassion child

It will be emailed and printed for your child. Isn’t that fun?

And seriously, how easy is that?!

So, your mission today is to EMAIL YOUR SPONSORED CHILD! It’s that easy! Leave a comment, or update on Facebook to let us know you’ve done it! You can even add a screenshot so we can all see how cute your sponsored child is!

If you don’t sponsor a child yet, I invite you to do so! Look through the faces at Compassion or World Vision and see who God might bring to your family.

To get to know more about World Vision, you can follow a team of bloggers to Sri Lanka on August 26-September 1st. I’m so excited to read about their journey as they meet their sponsored children and see what World Vision is doing in communities around Sri Lanka! Click over to the World Vision Bloggers site so you can follow along!
